VSA

Ok, here comes, my first real post....

VSA ( Very Special Arts ) is a volunteer service which help mentally challenged people through the use of arts. I join this group bout 4 months back with my pals xx and alex. At the first thought, i always thought of volunteer service group to be quite big with many people in it, but when i went for the first lesson, it had proven me wrong. It is just managed but four adults who have the passion to help others and the "kids" aren't exactly all children, some of them are near adult stage like me. Seeing their parents bring them to the class and how worried some of them are peeping through the small little window during the lesson made me thought bout alot of stuffs like the constant struggles of the parents of these kids, having to give their fullest attention to them, worrying bout their future, etc. If i were in their shoe, i will be pretty lost.

Some of the kids are pretty much normal with a shorter attention span or just a young adult with a small children's intellect. The normal serious case kids are those who cant talk or talk in gibberish or simply dun understand anything. Our job there was basically to guide them and be their friend. 4 months of doing this have made me close with some of the kids, many of them had learnt how to say my name ( my first lesson to them is to made them learn how to say my name haha ), aniway i always thought that what i have been doing is quite meaningful teaching them stuffs and all, but as 4 months have already passed, other than my name, they never seem to have made any improvements. All my dreams of helping them to become independent or someone capable to take care of himself or herself seems distant and impossible, maybe i hoped too much at the beginning, maybe it isn't possible at all, or maybe there is something wrong with us. Well, i guess we are pretty much powerless to help them sometimes as god have made everyone to be different but there will be a purpose for them nonetheless.

On the bright side, there are some things which made me think i didn't waste my time it will be the frenship forged between the volunteers and the kids. Like how they will call our name when we come in for the lesson, or how they dun wan to start the lesson until we come, or making a drawing of some unknown stuffs for us. Well, so i think lets just enjoy and have fun for this moment, as for the future, it can wait....
